The Maine SBDC Board of Overseers
The State of Maine Small Business Commission
Under Maine Statute, Chapter 381: MAINE SMALL BUSINESS COMMISSION
(HEADING: PL 1989, c. 875, Pt. L, @2 (new)), the Maine Small Business
Commission was established as an independent commission within the
Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) to evaluate
and coordinate small business and entrepreneurial programs throughout
the State of Maine. The Commission consists of 10 members: the Chief
Executive Officer of the Finance Authority of Maine; the Commissioner
of Economic and Community Development; the District Director of
the United States Small Business Administration's Maine District
Office; a designee from the Maine SBDC administrative unit, the
Dean of the School of Business at the University of Southern Maine;
the Chairs of the join standing committee on Business, Research and Economic Development (BRED);
the Chair of the Maine SBDC Advisory Board;
and 3 public members with expertise and knowledge in small business
and entrepreneurship, appointed by the commissioner. The commission
is responsible for overseeing the Maine Small Business Development
Center Program, enforcing the State contract between DECD and the
administrative unit (USM), providing funds along with the SBA and
others to the program, and advising the commissioner on strengthening
the support infrastructure for entrepreneurship in the State. The
Commission brings together the three major collaborating partners
of the Maine SBDC: SBA, DECD and USM, to assure a coordinated effort
and efficient delivery system of small business technical assistance
throughout the State of Maine.
