Portland, Maine –The Maine Small Business Development Centers (Maine SBDC), a state-wide program that helps entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses, has selected Peter Harriman as the 2018 State Star. The award, given annually, recognizes a member of the Maine SBDC staff that has shown exemplary performance and a strong commitment to small business success.
Harriman is a certified business advisor at the Maine SBDC at University of Southern Maine in Portland. He works with entrepreneurs and small businesses in Cumberland County to start and grow their businesses. In the nearly three years Harriman has been with the Maine SBDC, he has spent 2,432 hours advising 485 clients. He’s helped to start 38 businesses, create/retain 97 jobs, and helped clients access almost $4.2 million in capital.
“Peter is passionate about helping small businesses, driven to help his clients meet their goals, and strives for success in all he does. He’s enthusiastic, collaborative and brings a high level of innovation and energy to the SBDC program,” said Maine SBDC State Director Mark Delisle.
Harriman has worked with various clients throughout Cumberland County which include Wallace James Clothing Company, Cityside by E&S Auto Repair, Island Dog Brewing, Mill Cove Baking Company, Izzy’s Cheesecake and Maine Baycycle.
Each year, America’s Small Business Development Centers recognizes top performers from programs around the country at its annual conference. A special reception is being held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in Washington D.C. to honor this year’s award winners.
