Peter Richmond has always been passionate about dogs. When he learned that a well-established dog-focused business was on the market, he saw it as the perfect chance to pursue his dreams. For guidance, his bank recommended he work with the Maine Small Business Development Centers (SBDC).
Peter began working with Maine SBDC at CEI Associate Center Director/Business Advisor Alison Lane. Armed with determination and Alison’s guidance, Peter set out to purchase, rebrand, and expand his dream venture. Together, Peter and Alison crafted a comprehensive business plan, fine-tuned financial projections, and explored various financing options.
Peter comments, “The SBDC helped me by being a resource that got me started down the right road and kept me there. Alison always knew what the next step was, and I appreciated that immensely.”
With Alison’s assistance, Peter successfully secured the necessary financing and officially acquired the business and property in January 2024. Thus, Woof Daycare & Boarding was born, ushering a fresh chapter for this long-time business. Located in Glenburn, Woof is a doggie daycare, boarding, and grooming facility. They prioritize hands-on, attentive care, reassuring dog parents that their furry companions are well looked after.
Woof Daycare & Boarding was welcomed with overwhelming demand. Already, they have exceeded their goals and continue to increase the number of dogs they serve. Peter also introduced a new grooming service in March 2024.
As Peter reflects on his entrepreneurial journey, he is filled with gratitude and excitement. He comments, “I feel a huge sense of pride in owning my own business. I truly enjoy interacting with the dogs and the dog parents each day.”
